Responsible for the configuration, operation and maintenance of all UNIX/Linux systems in the assigned division(s). This includes configuring and troubleshooting in RedHat Linux and other versions of Linux, and HP/UX as needed. The incumbent is also responsible to integrate Windows and UNIX systems using packages such as Samba and VMWare.
Systems administrators are expected to work fairly independently while showing excellent judgement in seeking support form their supervisors as needed to assure correct application of tools and skills.
The Systems Support Group is responsible for implementing and maintaining the information systems used to collect, process and disseminate the weather-related data necessary to support research. The Systems Support Technicians work ass part of the Systems Support Group (SSG) to support the operational continuity of these systems.
Systems Support Technicians must be prepared to cover shifts as required to assure 24/7 coverage every day.
